You heard it here first folks, it may have taken her 16 months, but she can finally say "Mommy," clear as day. She has been able to say "Daddy" for several months but I was referred to as "Mmmmmmm" or "Mama" up until a few days ago. I was okay with her saying daddy, but started getting a little jealous when she was able to say, "Elvis" (this was the name of our Elf on the Shelf, for those of you familiar with that game) in December and still no Mommy. A few of her other favorite words:
Shoes (this was her first word ever spoken)
Socks
Daddy
Cole (but sounds more like Tole)
Cheese
Apple
Bye bye
Up
And lately she has become quite the little screamer. She screams about everything! If she can't get her shoes on/off, if she wants more of something, if she can't reach something etc... I'm not sure if this is a "second child" thing or a "girl" thing, but it's pretty annoying. I'm hoping it is just a phase she is going through because this girl has some lungs on her and is not afraid to use them!
As some of you know, we used to refer to Cole as "Cautious Cole" and our nickname for Olivia is "Olivia the Opportunist". That girl takes advantage of every little opportunity she can get her hands on. I swear she can hear me opening the pantry door from upstairs and comes running when she hears it, in hopes of her climbing in there and going through all of our food. She also loves the refrigertor. If I leave the door slightly cracked, she is all over it and her favorite game is to take all of the items (which are mostly condiments) out of the door and into the living room. She is also a climber and loves climbing on top of everything...the kitchen table, the counters, and lately she moves her chair so she can climb to the top of the couch and then she loves jumping off. She is a crazy little girl, I'm telling you!

Our trip down to San Diego
Last weekend we all headed down to San Diego to celebrate my sister's sons 2nd birthday (Alec). I was able to find some super duper cheap tickets on Southwest back in November and couldn't pass them up. So we flew down on Thursday afternoon and stayed at my dad's house for a night and then went to stay at my sisters house for 2 nights. On Thursday my dad picked us all up at the airport and we headed down to the beach for some fun in the sun and the sand, while Olivia took her nap. It was a beautiful day and Cole had a fun time playing with his trucks in the sand. On Friday we took the kids (including Alec) to the train museum in Balboa park with Grandpa. The boys had a great time running all over the place and Olivia did everything she could to keep up with them. Here are some pictures of our trip to Balboa Park.

Enjoying our time checking out all of the cool trains

My sister picked us up on Friday night after work and took us to her house. On Saturday we spent most of the day letting the kids play, going to the park and hanging out. We don't get to see them very often so its really fun to get the kids all together. During nap time I helped Kristen cook and get ready for the big party while my mom worked on another one of her masterpieces (aka the birthday cake!). Sunday was the "big" day for Alec and here are some pictures from his party.
Trying to get all of the kids together for a picture before the party begins....

Thanks for a fun weekend!!!
I snapped a few pictures of the kiddos on our flight home. There wasn't an empty seat on the plane, so that meant Olivia had to truly be a "lap baby" but instead, she of course, insisted on sharing a seat with Cole, who was not very happy about it. I'm telling you, these two are a handful together! Will they ever learn to get along or am I'm doomed for the next 17 years? Please kids, give your mom and dad a break!
Doesn't he look soooo happy to be sitting next to her...... :-)

Cole, "Ummmm excuse me mommy but can you PLEASE move Olivia!"

I did manage to snap one of them looking somewhat happy together!

Olivia at 15 months
We took Olivia in last week for her 15 month appointment. She has been sick with a cold so we opted out of the vaccines this time around (we all know what happened to Cole last time that happened). Other than that she is a healthy growing baby weighing in at 21 pounds 2 ounces (21% percentile) and 30.5 inches (48% percentile). She is running all over the place these days and really into everything "girlie". She loves playing with her dolls and giving them bottles, dressing up and she loves wearing play necklaces. She can usually be found wearing about 4-5 at the same time. She also has a huge fascination with shoes (wonder where she gets that from??) so much that the other day I put on a pair that she didn't like and she through a complete tantrum until I put the "pretty sparkly" ones back on her! I think we are in trouble.
She continues to be a very happy and easy going baby. Thank GOD! She goes down everynight at 8:00 on the dot and sleeps in until 7 or 8 every morning. She is down to one nap, usually around 1:00 and sleeps for another 2 or so hours. I am so thankful for a healthy baby and I just love her to pieces.

Oh one other fun milestone......her hair FINALLY fits into a ponytail! Her bangs still have to be pinned back, but we are getting closer :-) I'll have to post a picture.

2009 New Year's Resolution - Accomplished!!!
So if you look back to my first posting in 2009, it was the creation of this blog, which was my New Year's Resolution and I DID it! And it wasn't easy! Life is just crazy with 2 little ones, working part time, being a full time mom and wife and all of the other "things" that keep me running around like a crazy woman, but I have so enjoyed creating this blog and updating it with all of the Meyer family adventures. I was getting so far behind on keeping up with our photo albums and completing the kids baby books, so I thought if I did this and I plan on printing it out in a nice book, this can be their baby book and it will capture all of our families great memories.
It was quite a year for our family and we truly are blessed with so many things. Looking back on 2009, I am so thankful for #1 our Health. I think I always used to take this for granted, but after our scare with Cole in January 2008 and the fact that we are not getting any younger, I now truly appreciate it. I hope in 2010 we can have a year without any ER visits and no hospital stays (unless it's for the arrival of Baby #3 - and NO I am not pregnant) #2 - Family. Not only am I blessed with the 2 most amazing children any mother could ever ask for and husband who I love more and more as each year passes, but we have the most loving, dependable and supportive family! You guys are all the best and thank you for everything. We love all of your visits up here and are so thankful that we get to see you all as often as we do. #3 Jobs - With the economy the way it has been these past few years, I am very thankful for Jim's job (which he continues to excel at and truly enjoy.) He is entering into his 11th year with Biosite! and had a very successful year and 2010 is shaping up to be another great year. He works so hard for our family and I am so thankful for this. For my job. I went back to work in October and work 2 days/week and just LOVE it! As much as I love being home with the kids, I also very much LOVE working part time. It gives me a great sense of accomplishment and makes me feel like I am "contributing" something. I am so lucky to have found a job that is so completely flexible and is so willing to work around my crazy schedule. How I fell into this, I have no idea, but it is the best thing in the world and I hope I can continue.
As far as 2010 goes...who knows what the year will bring. We look forward to many more visits with family and friends. One of my New Year's resolution is to get back into my working out/running routine. It seems impossible with our schedule, but I am determined to find the time for myself to make this happen. I love the way I feel after I exercise, I enjoy the time by myself, and I need to make it happen more often. I also need to be more supportive of Jim working out. With his work schedule the only time he can work out is on the weekends, which I hate, because he is usually gone for 3+ hours and by the time he gets home, it's nap time for the kids, which means our day is shot by the time they wake up, BUT I need to be more supportive of this because it's important to him. Lastly, continue to have dinner every night Jim is home as a family. I think I also take this for granted that we are able to sit down as much as do together (one of the HUGE benefits to Jim working from home). We had a friend over for dinner the other night and as we were sitting there eating, she asked, "Do you guys do this everynight?" And we said, "Yep" as long as Jim is not traveling. It got me thinking how lucky we are to be able to enjoy this time together, even though half the time it ends with Olivia crying and wanting out of her highchair and Cole taking 2 bites of his dinner and telling us he is now done. But they are memories none the less and I'm glad I don't have to experience dinner every night without my husband. So I plan on contiuning to cook healthy meals (lots of veggies) for our family in 2010!

Our house at Christmas
Wanted to post a few pictures of our house at Christmas. They don't really do it justice, it really does look beautiful, but just so it makes it to the blog.....
Our tree...we went "fake" three years ago and I love it. Although I do miss the smell of a fresh tree.

The staircase with the garland. I bought the garland (or "garlic" as Cole refers to it) at Costco a few years ago and all of the decorations are very special because they were my grandmothers and I got them after she passed away. She LOVED Christmas and I always think of her each year when I am putting them up. We miss you Grandma Ward:-(

Christmas 2009
We spent Christmas Eve at my mom's house this year and a fun night with our family friends, the Drozds. My mom and Mike cooked a delicious turkey meal and we had a great time visiting with everyone. After the Drozd's left, we put out food for Santa and the reindeer (Carrots, a cookie and some milk), hung our stockings, and then read "The Night Before Christmas" and "Polar Express" which has always been the tradition in my family. Daddy read the books this year and then we put the kids to sleep so that Santa could come! The kids made out like bandits on Christmas morning and we had a great time. After spending Christmas morning in Lake Arrowhead, we drove down to Orange County to spend the rest of Christmas Day with Jim's family. Once again, the kids were spoiled with lots and lots of gifts from Aunty Lisa and Aunty Kathleen. We had a fun weekend at the Meyers house and enjoyed some nice weather and lots of relaxtion. On Sunday it was time to pack up our car one FINAL time for our trip back home. The kids did great on the way back home, although they barely slept at all (go figure on a 10 hour drive Cole did not sleep at all and Olivia only slept for about 1.5 hours), but they watched 2 movies and played with their toys. We left Orange County at 6:30 am and were home by 4:30pm. We had a great visit down South and to NYC, but there is NO place like home. We ALL slept great that night and have been enjoying having some time off this week to play with all of the new toys and spend some time outside.

This is the best family photo we were able to capture (and it's not very good!)

the book memorized so he was able to follow right along)

The kids "loot"

My mom made Olivia a beautiful quilt for her doll bed (the bed itself was mine as a child) and it matches her crib bedding here at home. She did such an amazing job and it was such a special gift. She also knitted her a hat and scarf that are the cutest thing I have ever seen. Olivia loves them both. She plays with the doll bed all of the time and loves putting herself to bed in it.

Spiderman, Spiderman - that was definitely the theme for Cole this year. Everything he got was SPIDERMAN!

Sledding time
Jim and I were nice enough to bring some snow with us back from New York to Lake Arrowhead. It only snowed about 3 inches, but it was just enough to make everything white and for Cole to enjoy some time playing and sledding in the snow. Jim even connected a rope to the sled so that we could pull him all the way to grcoery store and boy did he have fun.
My mom bought the kids snow suits for their birthdays and this was the first time Cole got to wear it.
